ok – i’ve failed miserably. there was debian etch with quagga and bgp working.
\ni’ve done apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade and quagga stopped working.

\nsymptoms: static routes added via zebra ware inactive:<\/p>\n

S 10.18.0.0\/24 [1\/0] via 192.168.0.1 inactive<\/code><\/p>\n

although next hop [ 192.168.0.1 ] was reachable directly.
\nbgp did not work neither. sessions ware established but counter of received prefixes was 0.<\/p>\n

my bet is on some system libraries that ware screwed during update, but after couple of hours of playing around with strace and looking at verbose logs from quagga i gave up. i ended up reinstalling whole system. it worked fine.<\/p>\n
