a brain-dump from my recent trip to Hungary, Slovakia, Austria and Czech Republic.
i flew to Budapest and have spent there 2 nights. it was the first time i used airbnb to book the accommodation and i’m quite happy with the outcome. during the 2 days of my stay i walked around mostly the center [ east bank of the river ] of the city + hills with the president’s palace / museums and Gellérthegy on the west bank.
from Budapest i took a combined train to Zvolen [ going quite counter-intuitively ]. it’s just 160km but took over 5h. in Zvolen i took a hike to a castle ruins [ osmand~ using the the from openstreetmap.org turned out to be much better than google maps ]. my route:
with the castle ruins and a place where you can drink mineral water directly from a … metal pipe [still very good].
after one night at Zvolen i took short train ride to Banska Bystrica. this time i hiked to some small astronomical observatory [D] on a hill south of the city and calvaria [f] – closer to the town:
after that 2 nights at Bratislava
1 night in Vienna
from Vienna i took a bus ride to Brno which i think was the nicest city of all those visited during my trip. after one night there another bus ride with the same company to Prague.
and 3 nights at my university-times-room-mate in Prague.
