asia trip 2/4 – singapore

after 10 days in Hong Kong my next stop was Singapore. i had 2.5days to use for some meetings and sightseeing.

the city shocked me – it’s so green, clean and uncrowded compared to Hong Kong. i still don’t understand where is the trick – Singapore seems to be wealthier yet prices were slightly lower than in HKG. i did not have much time – so i have only seen the central parts. i’ve stayed in some cheap hotel in the china town ~500m away from the ‘city’.

in the park Fort Canning, by a pure luck, i got into what turned out to be summer outdoor theater showing Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night Essay. my understanding of classical English is pretty bad but it was fun to watch anyway.

one strange thing – people in other countries i’ve visited during the trip – Hong Kong, Thailand, Philippines – were much more cheerful while Singaporeans appeared more uptight, less joyful. anyway – it would be great to be able to come back to Singapore again, this time for 2 weeks or more and with some bicycle to see more.
